Donora borough voted for change Tuesday, apparently ousting three incumbent councilmen.

Incumbents John Conger, Dennis Gutierrez and Gilbert Szakal Jr. lost their bids for re-election to Edward “Sonny” Lawson, Joseph Greco and Donnie Pavelko as seven Democratic candidates vied for three spots. Charles “Snuffy” Smith also edged out the incumbents in votes, but failed to secure a nomination.

Lawson was Tuesday’s top vote getter with 20.8%. He said he was relieved by the results.

“I’m glad it’s over,” Lawson said, adding he was surprised to lead the votes. “Obviously people like me and I get along with everyone in town.”
