California’s baseball team lives to play another day after rallying for six runs in the fifth and sixth innings to squeeze past No. 9 Eden Christian and into the WPIAL semifinals with a 9-6 win at Greater Latrobe High School Monday.
The Warriors carried a 6-3 lead, keeping the Trojans on the ropes until their rally started in the bottom of the fifth.
Matt Trunzo singled and Nate Zemany walked to lead off the inning before a passed ball moved runners to second and third with one out. Payton Conte started his big day, lifting a sacrifice fly to left field to cut the Eden Christian lead to 6-4.
Two batters later, Jacob Piktel added an RBI single and California made it a one-run game as the teams headed to the sixth.
