Serra uses five-run fourth to topple Avonworth

On Thursday, Serra Catholic left its first-round playoff game with a sour taste in its mouth.
It was a 5-3 win over Fort Cherry, but given the high expectations for the second-seeded Eagles, everybody from the coaches to the players knew it was far from their best effort.
The Eagles worked the next three days, letting that wakeup call drive them in preparation for a matchup against Avonworth Monday, a team that made it the 3A WPIAL championship last season.
The result of that heightened focus was the Eagles at their best.
