When envisioning how his team would kick things off against top-seeded Mt. Pleasant Monday afternoon, Ringgold head coach Gregg Adams didn’t think it would come away facing a 4-0 deficit after one inning of play.
That was the reality, however, as the Vikings used small ball and took advantage of a Ringgold error in a four-run first inning that set the tone for a 9-1 victory over the No. 9 Rams in a WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinal matchup at Seton Hill.
Aside from the early deficit, defensive miscues proved costly for the Rams (8-9), who committed three errors, including a pair in the first two innings.
“I wasn’t expecting us to lay some of the eggs we did with the fielding,” Adams said. “It’s something we have done all season long and some of these girls just can’t shake those errors. We came back from that in the first playoff game, but I didn’t think that was happening against this Mt. Pleasant team.
