Milk and airplanes make for a unique combination today.

A faithful reader in the Belle Vernon area focuses on the subject of milk and other products at the United Dairy Farms outlets in the mid-Monongahela Valley.

“I remember going to the UDF store in Charleroi with my father when I was just a young girl,” said the woman who initiated the question. “It was at the far end of town initially and may have moved later, and I think there were other United Dairy stores in the area.”

According to the archives of The Valley Independent, the Charleroi store was one of the first UDF outlets in the Mon Valley. It opened on Tuesday, April 16, 1968 at 1001 McKean Ave.
