With an 8-2 victory over Apollo-Ridge on Wednesday, Frazier moved one step closer to earning an appearance in the WPIAL Class 2A championship game for a third consecutive year.

But two wins still stand in the way of the fifth-seeded Commodores’ quest for WPIAL gold.

Fourth-seeded Vincentian Academy now lies ahead of Frazier as the two teams will go head-to-head 2 p.m. today at Peters Township in a WPIAL quarterfinal contest.

“We’re just taking this thing one game at a time,” Frazier head coach Don Hartman said. “We know Vincentian is a good team and has a very storied program, and we know they have a very good pitcher in (Elizabeth) Arnold, so for us, we’re just trying to do what we do at this point in the season.”
