Freedom broke open a scoreless game Wednesday by batting around in the sixth inning of a 7-0 win over Serra Catholic in the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs.
Eagles starter Kaitlyn Conard was sharp through the first five innings, allowing just one hit to the Bulldogs (15-5).
“Defensively and pitching wise, that was the best five innings we’ve played all year,” Serra coach Dennis Willaman said. “We played really well. They scored five runs on us, and I am not even sure how they did it honestly.
“Kaitlyn threw really well. That team hits; they don’t walk much. Those first three or four innings she was amazing. She got a little tired there at the end.”
