Paul A. Plinta – New Eagle

Paul A. Plinta, 90, New Eagle, died Wednesday, April 17, 2019, in McMurray Hills Manor Nursing Center, Canonsburg. He was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Crookham, the son of Paul and Catherine Petros Plinta.​ For 30 years, Paul was employed at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in Monessen as an electrician before retiring in 1985. After retirement, he worked for seven years at the Washington County Tax Office. Paul was an ice hockey official with USA Hockey for 36 years, officiating kids’ games, high school, college and women’s college, all over the Pittsburgh area. After retiring his skates in 2002, he spent his time teaching children how to skate and play hockey. Paul was very active in the Senior Olympics and won numerous medals over a period of 20 years.  Paul was a veteran during the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish and for many years set up the church nativity scene. He was a member and for over 15 years was the director for the New Eagle AARP. He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Carden of Monongahela and Paulette Bugar and husband Gary of Renfrew; four grandchildren, Karen Justi and husband Chris, Joe Bugar, Jimmy Carden and wife Brandy and David Carden; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janet Plinta of Pittsburgh; brother-in-law, Don VanKirk of Finleyville; and several nieces and nephews.​ In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Taddeo Plinta; three sisters, Mildred Fabin, Pauline Williams and Marcella Novak; and two brothers, Charles Plinta and James Plinta, who died in infancy.​ A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2019, in St. Damien of Molokai Church, 722 W. Main St., Monongahela. Committal services and inurnment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
