Monessen hoping experience pays off

When Monessen and St. Joseph meet in their WPIAL Class A first round baseball playoff game Wednesday, two of the hotter teams in the classification will go at it.
The sixth-seeded Greyhounds (12-5) will take a seven-game winning streak into the 2 p.m. contest at Seton Hill. Monessen’s last defeat was against Section 2 champion and top-seeded California on April 23.
While St. Joseph (7-7) is only the No. 11 seed, the Spartans have won four of their last five games. That lone defeat was a tough 9-7 loss to Section 3 champion and defending WPIAL champion Vincentian Academy, the second seed behind California.
Obviously, something has to give.
