Students from 14 area high schools got a chance to be “state senator for a day” Friday, courtesy of Sen. Jim Brewster, D-McKeesport.

While they didn’t get to make any official legislative decisions, the students held a mock Senate session at the McKeesport-based Penn State Greater Allegheny campus.

During the session, they debated a real piece of legislation that Brewster is co-sponsoring that proposes legalizing hunting on Sundays during existing hunting seasons.

The students are in United States government classes at Auberle, along with McKeesport Area, Baldwin, Brentwood, Burrell, Clairton, Cornerstone Prep, Deer Lakes, East Allegheny, Gateway, Kiski Area, Plum, West Mifflin Area and Woodland Hills high schools.
