Both the Frazier and West Greene softball teams have big plans for the rest of May and hopefully into June.
The Commodores and Pioneers will each be looking for a WPIAL and possibly a state championship later this spring, so playing each other in a non-section game on Monday represented a good opportunity for both teams to see some top-notch competition before the playoffs begin.
“In the long run, hopefully it will make us both better, win or lose,” Frazier coach Don Hartman said after his team blanked the visiting Pioneers, 2-0.
For the Pioneers (14-4), who have won the Class A state championship in each of the past two seasons, the loss represented their first to a Pennsylvania team this season. West Greene lost three games to out-of-state teams in Myrtle Beach, S.C. to start the season. But despite the setback, West Greene coach Bill Simms looked at the game much the same way Don Hartman did.

Playing a happy tune
