When Harry Rutherford was putting together Elizabeth Forward’s schedule prior to the 2019 season, he sought to play the best out of section softball teams that he could.
For the Warriors, that meant scheduling three games early in the season in Florida against out of state 5A and 6A teams, as well as a late season matchup against a 5A Penn-Trafford team that looked as if it would be a formidable foe.
Fast forward a few months later, and that same Penn-Trafford team turned out to be 16-0 going into Tuesday, while Elizabeth Forward won the Section 2-4A title with an unblemished record in section play.
A game that was scheduled as a nice tuneup for the playoffs turned in to a chance to make a statement to the rest of the 4A class.
