The A.P. Delsandro Memorial in Donora has gotten an upgrade that includes the reinstallation of large, bronze plaques honoring Donora residents who were lost in service to their country during World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
The memorial was created by friends and family of former Donora mayor Albert P. Delsandro to honor his memory and recognize local veterans. A.P Delsandro was a World War II Army veteran who served in Europe and Africa.
The memorial was built in the mid-1980s with funds raised by Delsandro’s loved ones, the borough, local veterans groups and other donors.
The memorial had to be demolished nearly three years ago after tree roots and weather damaged the masonry features at the site near the intersection of Sixth Street and Meldon Avenue.
