Roscoe American Legion Post 801 will host a 100th anniversary celebration Saturday, featuring a parade filled with veterans.
“I think it’s impressive that the Legion’s been around for 100 years … being the way that a lot of places in society (are), everything’s closing up,” said Roscoe Commander Thomas Selelyo. “A lot of Legions are still remaining strong and keeping their membership up and keeping their doors open.”
The parade will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting at Elco Ballfield and ending at the Roscoe Legion building on Furlong Avenue. Local fire and police department representatives will join in the parade alongside veterans, California Area High School varsity band members and more. A few hundred people are expected to participate.
After the parade, a celebration will run late into the night. Dancers will perform during the day and the Roscoe Legion will recognize winners of a recent essay contest for high school students in the 25th District. At night, bands will perform classic and dance rock.
