With four days off from practice and games due to the holiday weekend, Serra Catholic head coach Brian Dzurenda was concerned his team might come out flat and play a bit tentatively against South Allegheny on Monday.
His worries didn’t come to fruition, however, as the Eagles stretched their winning streak to eight games with a dominant 15-1 victory over the Gladiators in nonsection play at Boston Field.
Serra Catholic (11-1) scored 10-plus runs for the fifth consecutive game and is now outscoring its opponents, 80-7, over the course of its last eight games.
“I was just happy that the team as a whole picked up where we left off,” Dzurenda said. “After the first inning I thought we bounced back and picked things back up.”
