Leo J. Zuccarini was 92 years old when he passed away on April 11, 2019. A resident of the Mon-Valley his entire life, Leo was born on May 16, 1926, son of Camillo and Elizabeth Patch Zuccarini. Leo became a proud patriarch of a large family. He was a grand man with unyielding motivation to provide for his family. He was a giver and in his early years he gave to his country, joining the U.S. Navy and sailing the seas of the Mediterranean on the USS Savannah. After coming home, he met the love of his life, Genevieve, in 1948.  They were happily married on May 7, 1949, and from that moment on, their love and unity became boundless. After returning home from the Navy and marrying his bride Genevieve, Leo worked for more than 40 years as a welder, first for Combustion Engineering and then for the Lee-Norse Company. While at Lee-Norse, Leo became president of the United Steelworkers Local Union. In later years, he served 15 years on the Carroll Township Sewage Board. He was a fixer of problems, spending most of his time helping his children before considering his own. His tireless work ethic defined him and it would not have surprised anyone to see him cutting the grass, a day or two after cutting the grass! Once, when one of his grandchildren confided that there was too much work to be done and not enough time, Leo just gave an easy laugh and said, “Sounds like a midnight job.” “Pap” always found a way! Leo’s accomplishments are many, but his greatest accomplishment resides in those that knew and loved him. Some of us called him dad, some “pap”, “pappy”, or “pap-pap”. Some of his great-grandchildren even referred to him as “big tall pap”. Pap always made time for all of us and we are all better in countless ways as a result. He was the best, and will be missed and loved by his family forever. Thanks for everything Pap – we love you! Leo is survived by his brother, Bernard Zuccarini; his daughter, Nancy Garcia (Jeff DeRosa); son, Thomas Zuccarini (Sharon); son, Richard Zuccarini (Linda); daughter, Christine Nicodemus (Darren); eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Zuccarini; a grandson, Lee Richard Zuccarini, a sister-in-law, Dolores Zuccarini. The love of his life, Genevieve, lived only one day more than her beloved Leo. Leo’s family would also like to express a special thank-you to Bethel Park Manor Care and the staff who provided comfort and support to Leo over the past year. Friends will be received at the MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, marshallmarrafuneralhome.com, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Blessing prayers will begin in the funeral home 9:30 a.m. Tuesday April 23, 2019, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial with Father Kevin Dominik as celebrant. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. The Mid Mon-Valley Shipmates will conduct a Two-Bell ceremony in the funeral home 4 p.m. Monday.
