Spirnak, Marek win TSTCA gold

Elizabeth Forward’s Bri Spirnak and Belle Vernon Area’s Ryan Marek were victorious at the Tri-State Track Coaches Association Outdoor Championship held at West Mifflin over the weekend. 

Spirnak, the defending WPIAL champion in the javelin, won with a throw of 138 feet, 11 inches. South Park’s Maura Huwalt, another defending WPIAL champion, finished second as she threw for a mark of 135-05. Spirnak won WPIAL gold in Class 3A last season while Huwalt won in 2A. 

BVA’s Casey Weightman also competed in the javelin, placing eighth with a throw of 102-06.

Marek claimed the gold medal in the discus, throwing a winning mark of 140-01. McKeesport’s Colin Lyons captured the silver with a throw of 137-05. Ringgold’s Ryan Leech medaled and placed seventh in the event after throwing 127-07.
