Mon City welcomes fallen airman home

Almost 76 years after he left Monongahela to fight in World War II, U.S. Army Air Force Sgt. Vernon L. Hamilton is finally home. 

Though few Monongahela residents remember Hamilton and most weren’t even born when he was killed in a bomber crash, they turned out in masses Saturday to welcome his remains home. 

Downtown Monongahela was decorated with American flags waving from utility poles, homes and businesses.
