No sophomore slump for BVA grad Deven Judy

It wasn’t long ago that Deven Judy arrived on the campus of Gannon University as a successful high school pitcher aiming to make a name for himself at the collegiate level.
A former Mon Valley Independent-BeeGraphix Pitcher of the Year, Judy did just that as a freshman with the Golden Knights in 2018, emerging as a reliable option on the mound.
Despite his ERA sitting just under 5.00, the Belle Vernon Area graduate struck out 61 batters in 53 innings and tossed one shutout and three complete games in 15 appearances (nine starts).
“Every start I had, I went in not knowing what to expect. It was nerve-wracking since I had times during the offseason where I would get hit hard by my own team, so it didn’t help knowing that another team could potentially do that when it matters most,” Judy said. “After last year and with all the innings under my belt, this year has been a lot more relaxing. I wouldn’t say that I still don’t get nervous, but it is nowhere near the level that it was last year.”
