Gerald A. Powell, 87, of Newell, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019. He was born Sept. 22, 1931, in California, Pa., son of Cabe Powell and Elizabeth McGinn-is Powell. He was a United States Army veteran, a member of the Newell Santa Barbara Club, VFW and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was a retired truck driver for Guttman Oil Company. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Vogel and husband Donald of Newell; sister, Sophie Hotz and brother, Bert Powell, both of California, Pa.; granddaughter, Kimberly Smith and fiancée Michael A. Carroll II; grandson, Ted Vogel and wife Christie; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Smith; and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Trent-Powell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Gerry will be missed by many special neighbors and close friends, but mostly by his faithful companion, Joplin. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pauline Bartolomucci Powell; daughter, Krystal Powell; four brothers, Cabe Powell, Guy Powell, Todd McLaughlin, and George Powell; and father-in-law and close friend, John Myrga. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2019, at ELEY-MCCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC., Fayette City, www.eleymccroryfuneralhome.com. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2019, in the funeral home with Pastor Frank Todaro officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by Perry VFW Gold Star Post 7023. Inurnment will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Coal Center, at a later date for the family.
