Elizabeth Forward junior pitcher JC Schmidt tossed six shutout innings while the Warriors’ bats came alive late in a 4-0 victory over South Park in Section 3-4A play at Wylie Field Wednesday.
Schmidt surrendered just three hits while walking two and striking out five. He threw 96 pitches and pitched his way out of multiple scenarios in which South Park (6-3, 2-2) threatened to score, including a bases-loaded jam in the third. The Eagles left eight runners on base in the loss.
“He left it all out there on the field,” Elizabeth Forward coach Frank Champ said of Schmidt. “I am just proud of his effort and his willingness to go out there and battle.”
One day after committing four errors against McKeesport, EF (6-2, 3-1) played great defense behind Schmidt, finishing without an error for the first time this season.
