An aggressive approach at the plate led to a four-run first inning, providing Ringgold with all the runs it needed to top Belle Vernon Area, 4-3, in a pivotal Section 3-4A contest at Ken Griffey Sr. Field Wednesday.
The Rams (4-3, 3-1) were first-pitch swinging off Leopards’ starter Cole Naylor, scoring three runs on the first nine pitches of the game.
“The first inning Cole was throwing the ball right down the middle,” BVA coach Daryl Hixenbaugh said. “He wasn’t pitching.”
The worst part for BVA was they had the bases loaded and no one out in the top of the first inning and didn’t score a run.
Naylor walked to lead off the game, Garrett Greco singled and Josh Hoffman reached on a fielder’s choice. Rams shortstop Koby Bubash threw to third wide to load the bases.
