Monessen school board member takes shot at Shorraw

A Monessen School Board director’s comments about the city’s absentee mayor created a tense atmosphere at Tuesday’s meeting.
Board members became visibly uncomfortable when Director Maria Scuteri questioned a student activity request involving Mayor Matt Shorraw.
Shorraw has served as the district’s assistant band director for several years. While he has repeatedly made headlines for his refusal to attend city council meetings for the past 11 months, the school board has not commented on the situation.
The student activity request was for Shorraw to accompany 10 students on a Duquesne University tour April 16, at no cost to the district.
