Wallace J. Zielinski, age 78, of Carroll Township, died Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Township. He was born Dec.11, 1940, in McKeesport, son of the late Joseph Zielinski and the late Violet Debowski Zielinski. Wally was a graduate of Donora High School Class of 1958. He attended California University of Pennsylvania where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree and Ohio State University where he received his master’s degree. Wally taught math in the Cleveland Area School District and the Baldwin-Whitehall School District before retiring in 1996. He also taught computer classes at California University of Pennsylvania. After retirement, he was elected the national president of the Polish Falcons of America. During his tenure in office, he served as a trustee for the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington, D.C. He also enjoyed two private audiences with Pope John Paul II. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Valley Church in Donora. Wally was very active in his parish church, serving as Eucharistic minister, lector, CCD instructor, and volunteering at the fish dinners and other parish events. He was a member of the Bishop Elko Knights of Columbus Council 1941 in Donora, having held various positions including grand knight. Wally was also a fourth degree Knight of Columbus and controller for the Bishop Phelan Council. Survivors include his two sisters, Emilie (Dr. Stephen) Baker of Wexford and Flo Petrosky of Monessen; nieces and nephews, David C. Baker of Austin, Texas, Jonathan (Margaret Day) Baker of Huntsville, Ala., Matthew (Melissa) of Chapel Hill, N. C. and Amy (Justin) Williams of Pittsburgh; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Macy, Austill and Greer Baker of Alabama, Max and Owen Baker of North Carolina, and Colin Williams of Pittsburgh; uncles and aunts, Helen Debowski Pipik of Donora, Edward (Ann) Debowski of Illinois, Anthony (Rosalie) Debowski of Carroll Township.; and many cousins. Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900 where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2019, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2019. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of the Valley Church. Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
