Belle Vernon Area head coach Tom Rodriguez has said it all season long. The Leopards need to be better than three teams if the defending Class 4A champions want to return to the playoffs.

That outlook made Thursday’s game with McKeesport critical.

The Leopards pounded out 10 hits and scored the deciding three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull out a 7-4 win over the Tigers at Tom Rodriguez Field in Washington Township.

The most significant moment for BVA (2-5, 2-2) came in that fifth inning, right after the Tigers (0-3, 0-3) scored three runs in the top half to tie the game at 4-4.
