A Belle Vernon Area High School junior has an important message to share about distracted driving — It can wait, safety can’t.
Logan Dimpel was the winner of a high school billboard contest sponsored by State Farm Insurance in partnership with the Southwest Region Traffic Safety Network and PennDOT.
The contest, which required students to design a billboard with a message to discourage distracted driving, included submissions from five area schools: Belle Vernon Area, Greater Latrobe, Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center-2, McGuffey and Kiski.
There were seven entries this year.
A billboard with Dimpel’s design was recently installed along state Route 51 in Rostraver Township near Bill’s Golfland in recognition of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, which is observed annually in April.
