Riverfront park grant sought in Charleroi

A little less than a year after bricks from the former Cougar Stadium in Charleroi began to fall, the Mon Valley Alliance is working to secure grant funding to complete the first phase of development at the site.

Demolition of the stadium, which had sat vacant for several years, began last May using a portion of $252,000 in Local Share Account funding secured by the Alliance in 2018 for the Charleroi Renaissance Project.

LSA funding is generated through gaming at the Meadows Racetrack & Casino in North Strabane Township.

The first phase of the Charleroi Renaissance Project was demolition of the stadium on Second Street.
