It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Tom Murphy!
Monessen School District students got a lesson in anti-bullying Wednesday from Murphy, a mixed martial artist, self-proclaimed superhero and co-founder of the Sweethearts and Heroes program.
Comprised of motivational speakers, Sweethearts and Heroes was created to educate society about the impact bullying has on schools, neighborhoods and individuals. The program, which can be adapted for all ages, also delivers messages of bystander empowerment, empathy and leadership.
“We started this about 10 years ago and we’ve been on the road full time for the last five years,” Murphy said. “We’ve criss-crossed this nation and talked to over 1 million kids.”
