Monessen hears about latest Intermediate Unit projects

Monessen School Board on Tuesday received two requests from the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit.
As part of his annual district visit, WIU Executive Director Jason Conway spoke to board members about his organization’s latest initiatives, the Westmoreland County Committee on Legislative Action and STEP UP Westmoreland.
Also known as COLA, the legislative action committee is designed to provide the county’s 17 school districts with a forum for review, analysis and comment on state and federal legislation and regulations affecting education.
“Working with the superintendents in Westmoreland County, we’ve identified a need for us to speak with one voice at the state level,” Conway said, adding that 17 separate voices are not as strong as a unified effort.
