Soon, folks from the North Belle Vernon Recreation Commission will take to Community Bank Park and “egg the place up,” as commission member Lynn Sokol puts it.

Mon Valley children ages 12 and younger will hunt for 2,500 eggs at the park April 20, the day before Easter, continuing a decades-long local tradition.

“They are fantastic,” Sokol said. “Every year they get better and better.”

The event begins at 11 a.m. and is open to all children across the Mon Valley. The Easter Bunny will be on deck to entertain the children, who will be split into several age groups for egg scavenging. Most of the eggs will contain candy, but one select egg for each age group will contain a ticket for a special prize.
