Richard J. Nutt -Easley, S.C., formerly of North Charleroi

Richard Jerome Nutt, 60, of Easley, S.C., formerly of North Charleroi, after a long, courageous battle with cancer, went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2019. Richard was born Dec. 18, 1959, son of Ralph Kaye and Patricia Ann (Brokaw) Nutt. He was a graduate of Charleroi Area High School, class of 1976, was a member of the wrestling team and achieved the honor of Eagle Scout. After graduation, he served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and served the city of Havelock, N.C., area as a police officer, firefighter and EMT-1 for more than 25 years. Richard moved to Easley, S.C., in 2004. After 35 years of dedicated service with the Department of Defense, Richard retired in 2016. He loved hiking, camping, canoeing and going to the shooting range with his wife, Karen, and one of his many beloved dogs by his side. Richard is survived by his wife, Karen (Frances) Nutt; daughters, Virginia (Bill) Dutra of Warren, R.I., and Kimberly (Brett) Thomas of Pendleton, S.C.; grandsons, Mason Dutra and Liam Dutra; father, Ralph K. Nutt; sister, Kathleen (Jeffrey) Umbel; brother, Ronald (Barb) Nutt; nephew, Anthony (Kelly) Argirakis; father-in-law, Hank Frances; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and his faithful companion, Sandy. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Patricia Nutt; mother-in-law, Grace Frances; and brothers-in-law, Mark Frances and Donald Frances. Funeral services will be held Thursday March 28, 2019, at SULLIVAN-KING MORTUARY CHAPEL. Internment will take place Friday, March 29, 2019, at the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, S.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Cancer Society of Greenville or the Cancer Association of Anderson.
