Allegheny County has far fewer local races for the May 21 primary election that do not have enough candidates to fill open positions compared to other Mon Valley counties.
In three races, to fill open spots in the six-, four- and two-year terms of auditor in Forward Township, no one has filed to run in the primary.
In Versailles and Elizabeth boroughs, two people are running for three seats.
Incumbent Versailles Democrat Cynthia Richards and newcomer Matthew Richards, a Democrat, are seeking election.
The race for three, four-year terms in Elizabeth borough will feature Democrat Timothy Guffey and Republican Desiree Gephart. In the race for one, two-year term on council incumbent Democrat Andrew Miklos Jr. seeks re-election unopposed. Incumbents Robin Main, Julius Brown and Greg Huschak are not on the ballot.
In Elizabeth Township, there are three people running for commissioner in Ward 1, including Democrat incumbent Donald Similo. Squaring off against Similo are fellow Democrat Bart Rocco and Republican Megan McDonough.
In Ward 3, two people are running for one seat – Democrat William Piper and incumbent Republican Andrew Kuzma.
In Ward 5, Commissioner Jane Blake-Kerin is not seeking re-election. Republican Richard Algeri is running for the spot.
