Last season represented a youth movement for South Allegheny’s baseball team.
Many starters were sophomores or freshmen and the inexperience caught up to the Gladiators as they finished with a 2-9 record overall and a 2-8 mark in section play.
Head coach Mark Suckfiel described it as a growing year.
“(Last season) was a disappointment,” said Suckfiel. “It started with an injury to our top pitcher and that set the tone for a lackluster season. We were competitive in most games, but we were young and inexperienced. It’s a double-edged sword. They got some confidence, but they are not experienced enough to realize that the other team might be better than us.”
