Area fire departments and ambulance companies throughout the area will be receiving funding this year thanks to the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
Funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, and not general fund tax revenue.
Mon Valley agencies will see more than $500,000 in funding.
Eligible organizations may apply for grant funding for a combination of up to two projects in the following categories: facilities, including the construction and/or renovation of the fire company’s or ambulance service’s facility and purchase or repair of fixtures and furnishings necessary to maintain or improve the capability of the company to provide fire, ambulance and rescue services; equipment, to purchase or repair of firefighting, ambulance or rescue equipment. Includes the purchase of fuel for company vehicles; debt reduction associated with the facility or equipment; overtime costs associated with backfilling positions while fire fighters are attending training for career departments.
