A new era of Monessen softball officially kicks off next week.

Carlee Wickstrom, a former player at Seton Hill and Cal U, has taken over the Greyhounds program and is excited to kick the season off.

But Wickstrom must replace all-state pitcher Dana Vatakis – now pitching at Robert Morris – catcher Carly Rock, second baseman Destiny Habeck, left fielder Cara Wheeler and shortstop Maddie Guzzie.

There may not be a local team that lost as much, but Wickstrom is encouraged by the way the team has responded to her and the strides they’ve made.
