White Oak Mayor Ina Jean Marton commended two White Oak police officers and other first responders at this week’s borough council meeting for their role in preventing a borough resident from taking his own life.
Marton thanked White Oak police Sgt. Dan Opferman, officer Greg Smith, the Mc-Keesport Police Department, Allegheny County SWAT and White Oak Emergency Medical Service’s WOTAC Rescue Task Force.
“On Jan. 22, 2019, our department was dispatched to a State Street residence for a 20-year-old suicidal male, who had a firearm and barricaded himself on the second floor,” Marton said.
White Oak officers arrived on scene within minutes and heard a shot fired.
