John T. Popik – Belle Vernon

John T. Popik, 82, of Belle Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, in Country Care Manor. A son of the late John and Anna Hanustak Popik, he was born in Homestead on Aug. 6, 1936. Formerly of West Mifflin, he had been a resident of Belle Vernon since 1991. John was a U.S. Navy veteran and had been a heavy equipment mechanic at the LaFarge Company, retiring in 1996. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Edie Lynn Popik; two stepchildren, Sheri (Richard) Wiant of Belle Vernon and Pam (Craig) Ambrose of Belle Vernon; five daughters, Diane Kern, Erin Kosonavich, Cheryl Pasternak, Michelle, Carol; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Debbie; and grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Sandy Fitzgibbons officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
