Monongahela city council voted to purchase new Tasers for the police department, but a motion to buy a used car died for lack of a second.

In a work session last week, Monongahela police Chief Brian Tempest asked council this month to consider buying new equipment with some of the $19,000 the department received from Washington County District Attorney Gene Vittone.

The check, which was deposited into the city’s general fund, came from a drug bust in the city in which about $40,000 was seized last fall.

Tempest asked council to consider buying a $6,000 car for the department to use in Union Township.
