Donora is moving toward hiring a code enforcement officer.
Borough administrator John Bedner told council last week that he plans to start interviewing candidates today. Council set aside $57,750 to pay for code enforcement in the 2019 budget.
Mayor Jim McDonough said the borough has several properties that are blighted and need to be addressed. McDonough said the Mid Mon Valley Council of Governments advises “the way to deal with this is constant code enforcement.”
Councilman John Conger, who attends COG meetings, said he has proposed that the COG get equipment and a crew that could go from town to town demolishing blighted buildings.
