Parents of students who attend McKeesport Area School District were fearful that their children were in danger Friday morning when a rumor spread via word of mouth and social media that the district had received a vague threat of violence.
District spokeswoman Kristen James confirmed Friday night that there was no threat.
She said the rumor was that a threat was received early Friday and that the district was issuing robocalls to inform parents. James said no robocalls were issued by the district.
She said the district suspects the rumor was started by underclassmen who were jealous that senior students were taking an unauthorized senior skip day Friday and wanted to get out of school early.
