Fines start for mayor, councilman

Monessen Mayor Matt Shorraw and Councilman Gil Coles will be the first elected officials to receive a fine after missing an agenda meeting Thursday night.
If a written excuse is not provided in writing by Monday explaining why they were unable to attend the meeting, Coles will receive a $25 fine and Shorraw will have to pay $50.
The ordinance, the first of its kind in the area, was passed by council members Anthony Orzechowski, Dave Feehan and Lois Thomas during a Feb. 28 meeting.
It provides for the assessment of reasonable fines for absences at regular or special meetings of council.
