Monongahela residents can no longer dispose of leaves or yard waste by putting the materials out for garbage pickup.
The city’s leaf and yard waste recycling program will expand now that council has approved amending the existing ordinance to provide for collection of such items.
Monongahela had to make the changes to the city’s recycling ordinance to receive a grant from the Department of Environmental Protection.
The money will go toward purchasing new equipment to use in the collection of leaves and yard waste, bins for composting and possibly a concrete pad at the public works facility for those items, Councilman Ken Kulak said after Wednesday night’s council meeting.
