Rostraver Twp. sinkhole filled in
By Paul Peirce
An expanding sinkhole along a busy stretch of Route 51 in Rostraver Township no longer worries PennDOT, municipal officials and passing motorists, because it no longer exists.
The crater that had been inching toward the state highway near a storm drain, and reportedly had grown more than 10 feet in depth, was filled with multiple truckloads of gravel Friday by a Morgantown contractor, Commercial Builders Inc.
A worker, Don Sparks, anticipated the work to be completed by early afternoon. He referred further inquiries to BFS Foods in Morgantown, which owns the property where the Sunoco gas station and Burger King restaurant are located near the interchange of Interstate 70 and Route 51.
BFS officials did not return a call seeking comment. The sinkhole had consumed a portion of the parking lot and was surrounded with traffic cones.
