Frazier’s Thayne Lawrence will look to defend his PIAA AA state wrestling title this afternoon at the Giant Center in Hershey.

The Commodores junior will take on two-seed Alec English (35-1) from Kane for the 160-pound championship. Lawrence (28-3), the top seed, won the 152-pound gold last year after a third-place freshman finish. English, a senior, is the Southwest Region Champion.

Lawrence (28-3) reached the finals with two impressive wins Friday. In the quarterfinal, he disposed of Derek Berlitz of Notre Dame – Green Pond by tech fall, 16-0, in 4:25. He punched his ticket to the finals with an 11-4 decision over Cooper Mosier of Towanda in the semifinal.

In the semis, after a scoreless first, Lawrence used a dominating second period to go up 9-0 on Mosier.
