A man who left Mon Valley Hospital’s behavioral health unit without permission Thursday morning was found in a little more than an hour thanks to several emergency agencies.
Carroll Township police Chief Paul Brand said his department got a call around 9 a.m. reporting that a patient in the behavioral health unit forced his way out when a door opened. The man reportedly ran from the hospital and headed for a wooded area nearby.
Brand arrived on scene within minutes and said hospital security officers and several administrative employees were searching for the man.
“I called in additional resources from Monongahela and Donora police, Carroll fire department and the state police, which sent a helicopter down (to join the search),” Brand said. “(The patient) had worked his way through the wooded area toward East Main Street at the border of Monongahela and Carroll Township on Route 837.”
