Gibbs: Villa Maria ‘beatable’ opponent

When the matchup was decided that the Elizabeth Forward girls basketball team would face District 10 champion Villa Maria at Edinboro University in the first round of the PIAA playoffs Saturday, head coach Krystal Gibbs was eager to start watching film on the Victors (20-3).

What she didn’t expect was the amount of disdain out there for her opponent.

“I’ll tell you what, we’ve gotten about six or seven games of theirs,” Gibbs said. “I’ll say we have a plethora of film. I’ve had coaches from their district just send me film telling me to go out and beat them.”

There’s obviously no love lost for the Victors, but Gibbs said they’re a beatable team.

“They don’t have one player that really stands out for me,” she said. “Don’t get me wrong, they’re solid from one to five. Their guards aren’t bad. I think our shooters are better than theirs. All-around they’re a solid team.”
