The Mon Valley Independent sports department announced its annual MVI-BeeGraphix Super 6 award winners during an MVI Live webcast Tuesday evening.

The awards are for boys and girls player of the year, coach of the year, breakthrough player of the year and defensive player of the year.

Boys player of the year

For the second consecutive year, Serra Catholic’s Jimmy Moon was tabbed as the boys player of the year.

Moon finished the regular season by averaging 27.4 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. Moon finished tied for second in the WPIAL in scoring with Butler’s Ethan Morton. Woodland Hills’ Keandre Bowles led the WPIAL by averaging 29.3 per game.

A 6-9 senior, Moon helped lead the Eagles to their first section title since 2012 and their first WPIAL championship game appearance since 2009.

Girls player of the year

It’s a three-peat for Elizabeth Forward’s Bri Spirnak.

The senior forward claimed the girls player of the year award for the third straight year after averaging 19.4 points per game in 20 regular season contests.

Spirnak was instrumental in helping the Warriors win their first section crown since 2015. She also helped lead the team to the WPIAL semifinals and a state playoff appearance.
