Invenergy agreements detailed

The president of the Elizabeth Township Board of Commissioners announced a pair of agreements with a Chicago-based company that intends to develop a 550-megawatt gas-fired power plant in the Smithdale portion of the township.

Andrew Kuzma explained the sewer and host agreements with Invenergy LLC during Monday’s board of commissioners meeting.

He was met with responses from residents both supporting and opposing the agreements.

The sewer agreement states that Invenergy will make a $25 million payment to the township sanitary fund and that the company will become a sewage customer of approximately 59 equivalent dwelling units.

Kuzma said if the township did not get the sewer agreement, sewage rates would either double to $80 a month or the township would have to sell its sewer system to Pennsylvania American Water.
