Oscar-nominated films on display in Monessen

Donna Vesely has obsessively watched almost all of the Oscar-nominated films from the past five years. She’s realized it’s hard for people in the Mon Valley to see the nominated short films without driving far.

“You can see all of the mainstream movies, almost, anywhere else,” Vesely said in an interview. “But where can you see the shorts?”

This is partly why Vesely, Mid Mon Valley Cultural Trust chairwoman, screened all 10 nominated live action and animated short films at the Douglas Education Center for interested movie fans this past weekend.

About 40 people attended a trust event Friday evening, complete with a dinner from Lucchesi’s in Monessen for $65 altogether.
