Area wrestlers ready for Section 2 tournament

Today at Connellsville High School, the 3A individual wrestling season starts for Belle Vernon Area, Ringgold and McKeesport. The top five finishers at each weight in the Section 2 tournament will move on to next weekends WPIAL 3A Championships.

Though none of the local wrestlers was given a number one seed, two competitors — Belle Vernon seniors Scotty Joll and Logan Seliga — have previously won section championships. 

Joll (27-5), a West Virginia University recruit, is the third seed at 182 pounds. He won a section title as a freshman and followed that up with two runner-up finishes. He rebounded last year to win a WPIAL championship at 170 pounds and placed fifth in the state tournament.

Seliga (24-6) is the second seed at 120 pounds. He won the section title last season at 126 pounds and finished third as a freshman.
